Lab history

The predecessor of the Department of Pharmacology was established in 1944 when the old Tokushima Medical College was established. 1945 saw the arrival of the first professor, who retired after one year, and the arrival of the second professor, who also retired after one year. 1948 saw the establishment of Tokushima Medical College, and in 1949, Professor Yoshie Kajimoto was appointed as a professor. In 1951, the University of Tokushima became the Faculty of Medicine, and nine basic medical courses including pharmacology were established. Dr. Kajimoto was appointed as the first professor and has been in this position ever since. In 1975, Dr. Genro Oka was appointed as the second professor, and his main research achievements were in neurotransmitters such as catecholamines. 1996, Dr. Toshiaki Tamaki was appointed as the third professor, and his research interests included renal physiology, angiotensin II and oxidative stress, and the organ-protective effects of nitrite. After two years of absence, Dr. Ikeda was appointed as the fourth professor in August 2020.
