Graduate and Undergraduate Student Recruitment

The Department of Pharmacology is seeking graduate students (master's and doctoral students). We are looking for graduate students (master's and doctoral students) in the field of pharmacology. All you need is motivation. We will teach you from the very basics, so there is no need to worry at all. All of our staff will do their best to support you. It is necessary to take the entrance examination for the graduate school of the University of Tokushima, so please consult with us if you wish to take the entrance examination. Observations are always welcome. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested.

Student Lab for first and second year medical students is also available at any time. It is okay if you just want to try experiments or do research. It is important to actually try it. While research on patients is a very difficult hurdle, basic research can be started at any time (clinical research is recommended to be done after obtaining a medical license). I believe that most of you who entered the University of Tokushima are aiming to become clinicians. I was the same way. However, it is important to experience basic research at least once early on to get a feel for what it is like.

After I joined the Department of Internal Medicine, I aimed to become a cardiologist, especially an interventional cardiolist, as a subspeciallity. After entering graduate school six years after graduation, I became interested in basic research and unexpectedly studied abroad for research. I have now made the exact opposite change in direction from my initial goal.
Student Lab can be done at your own pace. This is not an obligation, so you can start at any time, quit at any time, and resume at any time. In general, doctor = clinician, but doctor = scientist. You may make new discoveries that can rewrite textbook common sense. There is no need to think it difficult at all. If you are at all interested, please feel free to contact us.

Medical professionals need to be trained not only to acquire techniques but also to consider pathophysiology and disease mechanisms logically. Early experience in basic research is extremely beneficial to deepen understanding of important events that are not "behind the scenes" of daily clinical practice. Pharmacology is the basis of treatment of all diseases and plays a bridging role between basic medicine and clinical medicine. We support medical students in the process of studying medicine and young clinicians/healthcare professionals in clarifying questions they have in the course of their daily work experience from the perspective of molecular biology methods, so that they can apply the findings to their daily clinical work and engage in research that leads to clinical applications on their own.

Even non-medical professionals can further develop their own past research by acquiring medical knowledge. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information and consultation.
